Don’t worry, I’m not technically reading it, just listening to it on my ipod plugged into my stereo. It’s Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and I’m loving it! I finally have entertainment for my forty five minute commute. This website I found has quite a few audio books that you can get for free and store onto your ipod. I have joined as a private tutor in a reputed tutoring agency 5 months ago. I lost my job as a salesman last year, and I knew that I needed to find a job that offered some security from layoffs. I didn’t have years to go back to college for a degree,and I didn’t know which direction to go. I started researching what kinds of jobs are most likely to beat the recession, and I found out that I could get a great job by taking some homeland security training. I completed the necessary coursework, and I was offered several different jobs. The pay and benefits are fantastic, but the real reward is knowing that I am serving my country and fellow citizens.

My best friend wanted to look into cosmetology classes. It’s not a career I would choose, but she’s been cutting hair and helping folks with makeup since high school. She sews too and is really bright. I bet she could get a license and start her own boutique operation. I can see her doing high-end stuff, but also volunteering a lot of time helping young people who want to look good. Maybe she’d set up in a tent outside a junior prom and do special makeovers for the kids, some of whom may have never worn makeup up until then.

I am thinking about going into the career field of therapy. I want to help people who have disabilities. I have been considering becoming a certified occupational therapy assistant, but I am unsure if I have to become certified and the benefits of it. I asked my school counselor, and she told me that it was a very good idea to become certified because my opportunities for a job would likely be much better. I think I will take her advice and go for it. I just need to find out what the requirements are to gain the certification. I imagine it will be some sort of test.
