In mormon doctrine, there are a few ordinances and covenants which are considered essential for any person to be saved and exalted. The first of these ordinances is baptism. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the first ordinance is baptism, closely followed by confirmation and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Baptism is performed by immersion, and Mormon doctrine says should only be performed on individuals of age eight or older. The next ordinance is the endowment, which worthy adults receive in the temple. After the endowment, being sealed to one’s spouse, also called eternal marriage, is necessary.
