A serious of dams has broken up the river into a series of impoundments and tail runs that provide recreational areas, hydroelectric power, and flood management. It also produces some of the best trout fishing that can be found anywhere. A popular trout magazine has listed the White River in the top ten fisheries in the country. The river is stocked with brown, lake, rainbow, and cutthroat trout. The 92 miles stretch below Muscle shoals dam near Mountain Home, Arkansas is the prime fly fishing spot of the river. Brown and rainbow trout reproduce naturally in this area. The current world record brown trout came out of this waterway.
